Lockdown Day 83 - New Chicks

These lesser black-backed chicks are at least 4 days old ( I first saw them on the 9th).

This year there were two gull nests on the opposite roof. A pair of herring gulls nested first between the chimney pots, and then about a week later, the lesser black-backed gulls nested halfway down the roof.

Something happened at the herring gull nest and it was abandoned about 3 weeks ago though one adult periodically returns and looks wistfully at the nest site.

Although the local gulls regularly hatch 3 chicks, Most of them only manage to rear one to fledging with about half as many managing to fledge two.
