Toadstalls, Stone and Gateway

At last it was a dry day and the mist had lifted so we decided to walk from a neighbouring village along the high tract leading to Royd Moor viewing point to look across to the Woodhead Pass. The views were not as inspiring as they can sometimes be but it was nice to be back there are after many months. Leaving the high point we dropped down across wet fields where we cam across these toadstalls and then through old farmsteads and the hamlets of Catshaw and Bullhouses. The stone is called Catshaw Cross and has been indetified as an old boundary stone that predates the enclosure of the fields at the begging of the 19th century. However, what the boundary it marked was is unknown today. Catshaw has some beautiful old cottages and the gateway invites imagining walking back through time.
In the afternoon Wendy and I had a productive discussion for future 'workshops' for the camera club making best use of the limitations of Zoom meetings.
