These marvellous tree sculptures...

... are in Ripon Spa Gardens. I thought they would make an interesting blip; until this morning I hadn't known they were there.

I was filling time, waiting for my optician to complete my latest pair of spectacles.

The chainsaw carvings, of characters from Lewis Carroll's 'Alice in Wonderland', were commissioned by the council, created by the sculptor Mick Burns (known as Chainsaw Mick) from Lincoln. 

I was previously not aware of Carroll's connection with Ripon; it seems he was a choir boy at Ripon Cathedral where his father was a Resident Canon

The three figures here represent The Mad Hatter, The Queen of Hearts and the Cheshire Cat.
