Espetos de sardinas

Every chiringuito has one of these barbecue boats. This one belongs to a shack on the beach at the bottom of our barrio, which just opened a few days ago. It's very cheap and cheerful, run by non-professionals (see extra). They were busy at lunchtime, constantly yelling orders across to the guy at the barbecue for espetos (skewers) of sardines and king prawns. We had a plate of prawns, a bigger plate of finger-sized bits of hake deep-fried in batter, and a tomato and onion salad. With some glasses of tinto de verano the bill was 20 euros, and like several other customers we finished off our meal by crossing the street to our favourite ice cream shop.

Earlier we'd carried on with packing, and then went to Cantarrijan for a bit if sunbathing and a last swim. The water was lovely, with a gentle swell. Yes, a bit chilly but once you were in it was great. I will miss it! But I was happy to learn from Facebook yesterday that our village swimming pool will open as usual on 1 July.

And now we're off for a last paseo along the seafront.
