A Tiny Visitor

The hummingbird visits have not been as frequent so far this summer as they sometimes have been. They usually get geared up in July, though, when the monarda starts to come into bloom. So I'm expecting they will be hanging around more in the coming few weeks.

I have, however, had some additional - unexpected - action at the feeder. For a few nights in a row last week, some creature knocked over the feeder onto the ground. I suspected a bear or a white-tailed deer. Every evening now, I take the feeder out of the backyard and hang it on the deck overnight.

On this day, I spent a few quiet minutes in our shady backyard, and above you may see a photo of our tiny visitor, a ruby throat male. Its gorget (that part on the neck) is actually red, but from this vantage point looks almost black. Welcome, little fellow. Enjoy the snack!

Here is a song for something very little: Lynyrd Skynyrd, with I Know a Little.
