There's no such thing as a free lily!

I was lying in the bath this morning when I heard the sound of someone apparently getting wheel-spin on the loose surface of our steep drive. This happened several times with no follow-up and eventually I realised that it was thunder! We had a fair bit of rain too, but by lunchtime all was back to normal and it began to get hot - muggy hot! I had my lunch outside, but even Emma and Jane Austen found it rather warm!

We forced ourselves to walk down to the town - what a relief when occasionally we were hit by a breeze! Not the best day for photography - quite hazy with a rather boring sky, so I took a picture of this unknown lily in a pot by the front door. This was a freebie which came with a load of free soil last year: a local landscaper gave me four loads of soil for nothing which filled up both newly built beds. Unfortunately the freebies included lots of crocosmia, some of which I got out while spreading the soil, others which I tried to dig out. This will be ongoing for a while, I think. I also got some free daffodils and a clump of this orange lily, so I mustn't grumble!

Quote of the Day:

John Ruskin - "Remember that the most beautiful things in the world are the most useless: peacocks and lilies, for instance."
