Castlefields Park (Wednesday 15th July 2020)

Rain put paid to the painting that was scheduled by the roofers for today; instead they brought forward working on the fascia boards and guttering, so there was a lot of hammering and shouting and bags of tools everywhere when Refna arrived at lunchtime. It wasn't really possible to do any gardening so after a quick survey of jobs to be done next time we took off into Calne and bought baguettes from Sam Widges for socially distanced picnicking on bench seats in the Town Gardens.
As they were working right outside the study window later on, I did a shortened version of my government approved walk, down at Castlefields Park, starting at Chaveywell Bridge. I blipped a heron last week at Caen Hill, but this is one of our local herons, perched on the disused Wilts and Berks canal just beyond the bridge there. It is probably one of the pair I saw near here yesterday.
