The Lozarithm Lens

Calne (Thursday 16th July 2020)

The stresses of the week from the roofing jobs culminated on this day in escalating costs, pressure from head office to get me to pay earlier than agreed and the inability to find anywhere in the house away from the noise.
When I found that a new peregrine falcon had been seen on the church tower it was the perfect opportunity to go and investigate.
Our resident falcon is usually to be seen from the autumn, but this new female was found to be a one-year old that had been ringed in Andover, so my personal name for her is Andi.
Needless to say, she wasn't present when I toured the outside of St Mary's but on the way back I got this shot of the catalpa tree outside the Lansdowne Strand in the town centre with the super-zoom bridge camera.

Lozarhythm Of The Day:
Big Joe Turner - Honey Hush (originally as Yakity-Yak)(recorded 12 May 1953, WDSA Studios, New Orleans LA, for Atlantic)
Joe Turner (vcl) with his Band (Pluma Davis' Rockers): Fats Domino, James Tolliver (pnos), Pluma Davis (trom), Warren Hebrew, Lee Allen (ten saxes), Red Taylor (bar sax), Dimes Dupont (alto sax), guitar, bass, drums, and vocal group
My principal listening of the day was Big Joe Turner - The Singles Collection 1950-1960  which includes two versions of Honey Hush, written by Big Joe but first attributed to Piney Brown and later to Lou Willie Turner - his wife. The second version was a Leiber-Stoller production designed for a teen audience, but this is the superior original. The song was later better known by the Johnny Burnette Trio, the template for countless versions by everyone from Paul McCartney to Elvis Costello and beyond.
