Water-plantain

After two fairly busy days I was glad of a quiet morning to catch up with a range of menial tasks, including a trip to Waitrose. Pete and then went for an afternoon walk round an extensive area of gravel workings at Etton and Maxey. We found one rather strange area of winter flooded land, which had been planted with trees, many of which were dead (see extra). The damp soil was densely carpeted with New Zealand Pigmyweed, an invasive alien that can out-compete out own wetland flora. But a few plants were just growing through it, including a couple of Trifid Bur-marigold and several Water-plantain, which have whorls of dainty three-petaled, white flowers.
