Things with Wings!

A Plan B sort of day...

Alarm set so I was up showered and dressed in plenty of time to catch the Red Arrows flying by, vantage point reached with time to spare...camera switched on...oops very low battery...camera switched off again to conserve said low battery! It was quite cloudy and I just hoped they’d be flying low enough to see. I waited...and waited...sadly the display in Edinburgh was cancelled because of the cloud so they may have flown over but couldn’t be seen! So the intended shot of them flying over Bass Rock (see extra) is missing something vital.

You may recall me witnessing a pair of buzzards mating dance earlier this year...it obviously worked and they’re now a family of three. The young buzzard is very vocal and can usually be heard for most of the day shouting for food. Today they were quite near the house for a while and I did get a few shots of one of the adults in flight (see collage), not a particularly sharp shot...something I need practise with!

The bird feeders have been busy this afternoon with lots of fledgling blue and great tits...this little blue was my favourite shot of the day. Some other birds, bees and butterflies in the collage...including a female linnet seen across the dean and photographed just for identification purposes as I’d never seen one before.

Dinner also turned into Plan B...neither of the ovens are working after last nights problem so the steak pie had to be cooked in the outdoor pizza oven along with the roast potatoes. Hope we don’t have to wait too long for a service engineer!
