Nicky and her Nikon

Our last day

This morning there was low cloud with rain expected, so we decided not to go for a long hike. My left knee is also a bit sore so I thought it best to avoid steep descents and so we walked into the village, where we bumped into a friend who told us that the Raid Classic Car Rally was about to set off from the village car park. The Raid rally is for classic cars (30 years and older) and today the route was from Klosters to Vienna, over 3 days on a scenic route that has to be navigated according to instructions given to them as they depart. We spoke to one of the organisers who told us that there is also a winter event that takes place in January which is extremely challenging for these old cars as they are not built for snowy mountain passes, and despite having chains and spikes on their wheels they often have problems. Today there was a festive air with many of the occupants of the cars - the driver and a navigator in each car - dressed up to suit the style of their car, and there also was a trio wearing traditional Swiss clothing playing on their alpine horns to see them off. Shortly after they took off the heavens opened and we had a heavy downpour, and I felt sorry for some of the entrants as their cars did not have a roof! If you like classical cars have a look here.

We had lunch and I made food for our journey home tomorrow so that we don't have to go into service areas whilst driving through France. We have found out that other people driving back to the UK from here have travelled through Germany and then only entered France near Strasbourg with no need to stop until the Eurotunnel. All this planing to avoid 'mixing with other people' in France so we do not have to quarantine when we get back to the UK, and I wonder why we are bothering as I doubt others are doing this. Everyone entering the UK from abroad also has to complete a form online 48 hours before arriving in the UK, which is meant to be checked on entry. Last night Adam and Tommy flew back to the UK and no one checked to see if they had completed the form. Still, we will stick to the rules but it does make me mad that the control is so slack in the UK.

It has been a wonderful holiday and a refreshing break from living with the Coronavirus situation back home, we feel very sad to be leaving here. Now the sun has come out again so we will have our last walk to stretch our legs before the long journey home tomorrow.
