Old Arnside

Not really old as I took it this morning. But in processing I added a touch of Sepia so that it resembles the large number of old postcards which used to be popular with visitors in the early decades of the last century.
The Arnside Archive group has a good collection.

In fact not very much has changed in the past hundred years. At the right hand end of the promenade you can see the large stonebuilt houses built in the Edwardian era when the village became popular as a retirement location for wealthy businessmen from Liverpool or Manchester. The presence of the railway certainly encouraged that.

The two pubs and the shops on the Promenade are little different from those on the old postcards.

At the top of the picture in the centre you can see something of the slopes leading to the summit of the Knott.

It is not the French Riviera. But it is loved by those who live here.
