Days gone by

This is one of the many abandoned lead mine workings that are spread across the North Pennines. There are scars and reminders of when men worked long hard hours to extract lead and fluorspar from the ground underneath this unforgiving terrain. This particular mine and drainage workings is near Harwood in upper Teesdale. We spent an interesting half an hour checking the place out yesterday in the sunshine. There are some more photos in the 'extras'.
