Sgwarnog: In the Field

Clinker

It turned into a nice afternoon so a few hours out in the moor wasn’t as bracing as I thought it would be.

I walked up Green Lane to Hope Farm and then on to the moor at Hope Gate. These clinker boulders are on Low Plain, near Dobrudden, and are the remains of burned and fused waste coal from a C19 coal mine at this spot.  About ten years ago I took a picture at this spot and managed to produce a sphinx-like silhouette, but I think a few bits must have weathered off in the meantime.

It was a relatively quiet day for wildlife, but I did see a couple of buzzard and kestrel, some wheatear and stonechat and a couple of speckled wood butterflies.
