Stonehaven War Memorial

After a dull morning (weather-wise) it cleared up to be a mostly bright afternoon, so we went up to the town’s War Memorial. It stands on Black Hill overlooking the town and is quite striking, as you can see.
It takes the form of a ruined Greek temple – deliberately so, to signify the shortened and ruined lives of those who died.

This evening, we had fish & chips from the Carron Fish Bar. It won the award for Scotland’s No.1 Fish & Chip shop 2020. I can report that it was really excellent.  This is also reported to be where the deep-fried Mars bar was invented! (I always thought that was a west of Scotland thing; every day’s a school day!) We didn’t try one. Have to say, it’s never appealed to me so I’ve never tried one, but who knows, we’re here for another few days…

Extras: a couple of other views of the War Memorial, and a view looking down on the town from near the memorial.
