Beneath Biscay

Ramble in Redes

We had planned a Sunday hike but, not for the first time, we set out too late. Our destination was the 'Desfiladero de Arrudos' in the 'Redes' nature park. We had intended to follow an 11 km route we found in Wikiloc. We didn't leave home until 10:20  however and by the time we got there at 11:30 all of the parking spaces were taken. We didn't fancy an additional trek just to get to and from the starting point.

After that disappointment a fresh search in Wikiloc turned up a walk starting from the nearby town of Campo del Caso a fifteen minute drive away. This small town is a centre for outdoor activities in the park, but was quiet today so there was no problem parking close the start of the walk.

As it turned out, the walk was just right. Shorter and less spectacular than our original destination perhaps, but still with some great views and very peaceful. We only met one other small group along the whole route.

It was also my opportunity to try out the camera on my 'as-new' Samsung S9. This model is reputed to have a very good camera so I was looking forward to trying it. I'm not one to pay the price of flagship mobile phones. The S9 was a flagship when launched in 2018 and can now be found, in immaculate condition, for 40% of new price. I'm pretty happy with the results hence extra extras.

As for walking, the lesson is that next time we go for a hike, which may be next weekend if the weather's good, aim to be at the start of a walk by 10-ish instead of leaving home at that time.
