My topsy-turvy life

Christmas picnic

We broke the rules. We went to tier 3.
We've already made the decision we're not going to see my family over Christmas but I thought it was important to see them and drop off presents and cards. Thankfully the weather was kind to us and, similar to the summer, we could have a socially distanced picnic* in the back garden, except this time with mulled wine, mince pies, and a Christmas Colin the Caterpillar.

It's hard to know if it's the right thing to do, and I was certainly very anxious about it, but I think it was important to see them and for them to see us, especially Aaron and Owen as they're growing up quickly (Aaron's desperate to be declared taller than me). We were all sensible though, staying outside, keeping our distance* and using disposable cups and napkins. The only one we can't control is Owen who was in and out showing everybody fridge magnets (that got cleaned afterwards) but it was lovely to see them all and we can at least video call at Christmas even if we don't see each other.

On the way home we heard about the changes to the national rules for Christmas. Our plans would definitely have changed anyway.

And I am so grateful to Louisa for driving, thanks to my shoulder, especially having to negotiate the horrible M6 J7, and for sorting out most all of the picnic too.
She is brilliant!
