New Year's Eve 2020

This is 'Parkway Man', also known as Iron Henry (although he's a steelworker).  Made by Jason Thomson and installed in 2001, it was commissioned by the City Council as part of a wider arts project  based in local woodlands and exploring the local histories of iron and steel-making  (the 'Fuelling a Revolution' project).

Anyway - I first took his picture last year,, as part of the voluntary work I was doing on the recording of public sculptures for ArtUK.

At some point since then, Parkway Man has acquired a new look. In these days of terrifying increases in the Covid figures, and almost-unbearable pressures on health and care staff, his image seems particularly appropriate. He's battered and grimy. But there he is, still standing.

The extra is an image of beech leaves in the morning sunshine.
