Skip's Blips

Redbellied woodpecker and then...

A large woodpecker landed in the backyard buffet and began pecking away at the suet cake.  There was plenty to peck at, he was hungry, and he wasn't wasting any time, pecking away with his pointy beak. And then he realized he wasn't alone. Take a look at the extra photos to see who joined him. First, along came a bluebird that landed close by, but even more alarming was the starling that landed right above our woodpecker's head, and threatened, in a very aggressive action, to take over the buffet. It wasn't a friendly encounter, but it eventually ended without harm to any birds (or photographers). Note: The action is easier to see if you enlarge the blips.
