Garden Birdwatch

Yesterday whilst having a FaceTime coffee with a friend in the conservatory I noticed a complete lack of birds on the feeders. Didn’t look too good for this weekend’s Big Garden Birdwatch but at 8.30 this morning there were two Goldfinches on the Nyjer seeds so decided to give it ago. For a good half hour there were lots finches, of all kinds, on the feeders, plus a Robin and several ground feeders including three Blackbirds and a squirrel!
After a good half hour they all disappeared again - maybe they all went up to Wendles56! No matter I felt there had been a good selection representative of what we normally get with the exception of tits.

We then had our Church Benefice Zoom service for Candlemas, during which Chris came to tell me that there were half a dozen Long tailed tits in the tree! Too late for the count but non the less great to know they were there as they are among my favourites.

Candlemas is actually on Tuesday Feb 2nd and is the official end of Christmas ( it’s when Jesus went to the Temple) so time to look forward to Lent in a couple of weeks and the way to Easter. It was a nice service which ended with us lighting candles.

Very cold hard frost this morning as you can see in the blips of the Blackbird and Goldfinches but at least it’s been dry again and was actually sunny, particularly first thing.

Happy birthday to SiL Ron today.

Haven’t done the Garden watch for a year or two as we’ve usually been in Bristol which was confirmed when I looked back  at last years blip today.
