Heresy

I am transfixed and mesmerised, watching the fire in the new stove and wondering about the basic elements that bring about this beautiful phenomena. It tantalises, and tempts us ever closer. But don't get too close, or you will get burnt. Reading Dante's Inferno we are taken on a journey through the 9 Circles Of Hell. It's not all about fire, that's true. There are some highly unpleasant torments awaiting us poor sinners, according to Dante. But fire crops up in the sixth circle, sinners are treated to the stimulant of fire, entombed in burning chambers, punished for the sin of Heresy.  It is no coincidence that fire was one of the main punishments for heretics in the good old days. Henry Vlll loved it. In most cases the smoke would get you before the fires did. But it was still a particularly unpleasant way to suffer your last moments on Earth. Then to find you get to do it all again when you get to the 6th Circle... How disappointing would that be.

Good day volunteering today, loads done and making progress. The charity open their doors in May for the National Gardens day, and my handiwork will be on display so no pressure there then. It has been a cool day and is now raining heavily. And we are sitting by the fire, dreaming of  warmer climes, ha!  How ironic is that?
