horns of wilmington's cow

A splash of colour

Ring-necked Parakeets have colonised quite a lot of cities where they might not be expected to thrive, like London and Amsterdam. Every so often one or two get seen in Edinburgh, and I've been looking out for this one for ages, which has been hanging around at a local golf course, and seemingly hung around a lot in one very specific location.

Finally her was there for me today, then had remained there as we returned from our lunchtime walk destination back the same way. I know they can be a bit of a menace, but they're still in that 'unusual enough to be lovely to see' category here.

It has been something of a good news day, after finding out before lunch that I've got two photos shortlisted in a national competition (I don't think I can say more than that just now), with another three added so far as other categories have had requests for larger versions for final judging sent out.

Got to take all of the splashes of colour and silver linings we can get at the moment....

p.s. the Ring-necked Parakeet is also known as the Rose-ringed Parakeet, and in the shot you can just make out the pink band behind the black on the back of the neck.
