Cow Green Reservoir

Treated myself to a day off today. We went, The Man and I, with our friend and his dog for a nice refreshing walk along the bank of this reservoir, the source of the river Tees. We've had quite a bit of rain over the past few days so there was plenty of water overflowing.

Cow Green reservoir is near Middleton in Teesdale, holding 40,000 million litres of water to supply the industries of Teeside. It is high on the moors and there is nowhere in Britain with such a diversity of habitats in one location.

We came across a Lapwings nest on the ground with 3 eggs and left it quickly after taking a photo, just in case! Grouse were all around us too, but not easy to photograph.

Many thanks for the encouraging comments.
