Sanderlings

A walk along the beach that has only existed since the second world war as it formed against the anti-submarine Churchill Barrier No. 4 that joins Burray to South Ronaldsay. lots of small waders; purple sandpipers, turnstones, ringed plover, oystercatchers, redshank as well as the sanderlings. A raven was stalking about the sand as well- I think everything was feeding on sand fly larvae or the like. The raven was shadowed by a hooded crow which replaces the carrion crow north and west of the Great Glen (extra). I have also added a close-up of the raven and its tongue. You don't see a raven's tongue every day.
