The Lovebirds, Back Together Again!

Well, it's been a challenging couple of months for my parents. My mom tested positive for Covid shortly before Christmas, and then she fell and broke her hip. She spent the past few months in the hospital and then rehab and then nursing homes. In these trying times, nobody could visit her face-to-face. She finally came home the last week of February, and on this day, we went to visit. I took along freshly baked chocolate chip cookies.

My dad was very lonely during the time she was gone, and he is delighted to have her back at home. And of course, there is nowhere else my mother would rather BE than home, so they are two peas in a pod. My mom is currently quite limited in how much she can do around the house.

She is still a little unsteady on her feet at times, but the walker helps. There was also some issue with her hearing aids while she was gone, and it turns out that she has experienced additional, significant hearing loss that has made it very difficult for her to participate in conversations - she simply cannot hear.

I spent a fair amount of my visit writing words on a dry-erase white board, erasing them, and then starting over again: "I love you. I'm glad you're home." New hearing aids are on order and they should arrive in about a week.

T. Tiger came along on our visit and he went slopping in the spring drain with me, just like I always did as a child. He also befriended a root vegetable and wanted to bring it home: "It's MY rutabaker!" he said. "No, it's a turnip," I told him, "and it can't come home with us!" *Cue Tiger pout.*

I snapped some photos of my parents and this is the best one of the bunch. There are still challenges to be faced, for sure; but it's pretty impressive that this sweet little old 90-year-old lady has beaten Covid and come back from a broken hip!

My parents are back together, once again - Praise the Lord! - and that is worth just about everything. We are very grateful to have her home. I think the smiles on their faces say it all!
