The Day the Vultures Came

When we got up in the morning, there were two vultures sitting on one of the big trees in our front yard. They mostly just sat there looking dark and ominous. But when I went out for some photos, they flapped their wings at me.

I have seen these birds in our neighborhood before. Sometimes they gather in large groups of 6 to 10 or more, and they sit on the fence posts like gargoyles: show of force, you know.

I originally thought they were turkey vultures, but upon looking it up online, I discovered that turkey vultures have red heads, and these do not. The heads of these vultures are black, and so it is most likely they are black vultures. (More info here.) They are all, of course, carrion eaters.

"Look! They've come for you!" my husband joked, as he pointed to the big, dark birds.

No, I don't THINK so! I'M NOT DEAD YET!!!! I'm not even CLOSE!!!!

The soundtrack song is this one: Bruce Springsteen, For You. I'm also adding a link to the original 1975 version, recorded live at the Hammersmith Odeon. Enjoy!
