Ready For Something To Eat?

The Man and I had lunch out today. We had some business to do down in Carnforth so we decided to make a day of it and visit Leighton Moss, an RSPB nature reserve.

The first thing we did when we got there was to buy a cup of take-away latte then we went over to a picnic table in the car park and had our lunch. We were joined by a pair of mallards and a robin.

The hides on the reserve were still closed but we knew we'd enjoy a walk down the causeway and along the lower track. Most of the bird shots we got were of birds we would have had in our garden but it was great fun being out in the sunshine enjoying nature.

At the end of the afternoon we bought more coffee and sat at a picnic table again. Once more a robin joined us and I took some nice shots of it posing in the bushes. When it landed on the next table I said: "Aww, I've got enough lovely, natural shots of you. I'm not photographing you on the table!"

Then something amazing happened! Another robin appeared nearby. Now they are very territorial, especially at this time of year, except with a mate. I turned the camera towards them to see what was about to happen. I didn't expect this!

If you want to watch the sequence it's here.
