To The Manor Born

The West Gate & Lodge, Thornton Park, formerly known as Wood End, Thornton le Street and Gautby Park. The East Gate, flanked by two imposing square buildings on the Thirsk to Northallerton Road, appears to be the main route into the estate these days.

The Manor House no longer survives and the estate, that was developed in the 17th century, has been divided up in the mid 1920s. These days part of the park is an equestrian stud farm.

The West Lodge was made a listed building in 1966. It is believed a Roman road passed through the land.
