Sociable Sunday

Eben stayed over last night, as planned:  we had a good time, with games, bathtime &  stories. He was engrossed in a book that he'd brought over with him, all about insects.  I love the way he retains all sorts of vivid details, and gets absorbed in the illustrations and descriptions.  Perhaps that's what made me take a closer look at this spider, carefully spinning a web in our bedroom window, later in the day.

Josh, Ruth and Luca came over to pick Eben up around 11.30, and stayed for a cup of tea and a chat. Luca is now articulating his expanding set of words more and more accurately. 'Mummy' and 'Daddy' and 'bun' (for Eben) being the ones he's working on with most energy. And he's decided to turn me into 'Nanny' rather than 'Nanna' these days - a little invention of his own.  Luca will be back with us tomorrow, for his regular Monday visit.

Such enjoyable minutiae.

After that, Richard and I drove to Hathersage for an outdoor lunch with Marie and Patricia, two very old friends. We sat in the outdoor garden behind a cafe; we tried not to get bogged down in gloomy chat about the elections. I'm beginning to feel more trustful of the gradual opening up of shops, cafes etc.  I'm even beginning to think we might get to see Nomadlands in a cinema before too long.
