If you can't beat them...

Threlkeld Keswick Railway Trail.

During lockdown while not allowed to mix indoors and in an attempt to get some of Kanyl's mobility back we have been doing wanders.   Today we chose the Keswick to Threlkeld Railway line.   OK it hasn't been a railway since the 70s but that is what I always think of it as.

The track had developed into a walking and mountain biking route until Storm Desmond decided otherwise.  Some of the bridges, two I think were destroyed and for a while it was thought that might be the end.  However with the aid of EU money they were repaired and the whole 5K is now level tarmaced and accessible for walkers, cyclists, pushchairs and those with limited mobility.

The blip is looking through one of the smaller tunnels with a girder "bowstring" bridge over the River Greta in the background.  The tiny figure propping up the bridge in Kanyl.
