The Lozarithm Lens

Lacock (Wednesday 19th May 2021)

With the partial easing of lockdown restrictions it was possible to arrange to meet up with my brother, the Spotlight Kid, in the Woodland Garden, and he arrived mid-morning for a tour of the garden and a look at the new conservatory roof. We hadn't seen each other since January 2020, in London.
The garden continued to open up for business and the cotinus that sheltered the table we sat at was starting to bud (in Extras) and a clematis had begun to flower overnight.
We were pleased to be joined by Refna who had been invited to come for a cup of tea and she stayed for an hour or so.
Later, Geoff and I went for a picnic in the Town Gardens where we could see the flowers, shrubs and trees and watch the 55 buses go by, while formulating our plan for the afternoon.
It was decided to take our cars to a spot near Lacock for a walk around the village, and so we parked by the pack-horse bridge in Reybridge and walked away from the river Avon via Nethercote Hill, reaching Lacock at the Bide Brook ford and strolling through the picturesque buildings and stone walls. One of the first sights was some topiary in a private garden. We didn't go into Lacock Abbey on this occasion, not having booked, but did pass by. Sheep and lambs were out in the grounds and there was toadflax growing through cracks in the stone. Despite goldfinches coming to the feeders at home, I think this was the first time I managed to get a shot of one (second Extra). We were walking up to the road bridge over the River Avon, which we did before retracing our steps. I found some red campion on Nethercote Hill and when we reached the common by the river back in Reybridge, a mixed herd of cattle were there to provide my blip.

Lozarhythm Of The Day:
Cat Power - Sea Of Love (1998)
The Spotlight Kid and I have both watching Lily James and Emily Beecham in The Pursuit Of Love, a three part serial that I finished watching on this day. The soundtrack was more contemporary than the period of the story and included this minimalist cover by Cat Power from The Covers Record of Sea Of Love, originally by Phil Phillips and the Twi-lights in 1959, though better known in the UK by Marty Wilde's hit version from the same year.
