Flower Friday : : Yucca Flower

I'm posting this early today as we are actually attending a social event this afternoon...a wedding, planned twice before, but the third time's a charm. Planning for attending has presented complications we would never have considered before but now seem almost insurmountable:

How are we going to get there and, more importantly,  get back after a wedding at a winery? Not that we plan to get roaring drunk, but we wouldn't say no to a couple of glasses. We will need them to ease us into being with 100 people at a social event again. Dana offered to take us and pick us up when we called her, a lovely offer, but we hated to expect that of her. The perfect solution presented itself, when we discovered that our remaining neighbors, the guys across the street are going, and one of them doesn't drink...after a brief discussion as to whether we were on the same page on when to leave the party...when the dancing starts...(for once a broken ankle served John well) problem solved.

What to do with Spike...our baby. He hasn't been left for that long on his own so he's going to Dana and Jim's, but they have a crew working on their bathroom so they will pick him up when the crew leaves and somehow he'll get back here when we get home. Those details depend on a number of variables.

What to wear? I have completely lost interest in shopping for clothes but the dress is described as 'garden cocktail'. I have taken a deep dive into my closet for something suitable, considering the outfits that I wore once to each of my children's weddings and never again, but settling on a dress of uncertain vintage but feels suitable. Shoes...oh no. I don't think Birkenstocks will work. On the other hand, the whole thing is going to be outside and who is going to be looking at my feet?

Turning to John being his usual bolshy self about dressing up...defined as anything but a t-shirt and jeans or shorts...but finally insists he has found something suitable in his closet. I'm not going to ask....but the shoes. He has been ordered not to wear the hiking boots anymore because of the cellulitis and insists he has tons of shoes in his closet. No, I said, you have tons of worn out, dirty gardening shoes in your closet. We reached detente over coffee at Cafe Frida this morning with Gail acting as mediator. We went to the shoe store on the way home, I looked at the men's shoes, pointed out the ones I thought were suitable and left him to it while I sat in the car with Spike.

I'm pretty sure that if this wedding had taken place on the first set date, May 3, 2020 it wouldn't have seemed nearly as complicated. But it will be all the more joyous for the bride and groom and their families for the waiting and we do look forward to sharing their day with them. It's not about us after all....
