Short summer

After the welcome and lovely weather of the last couple of days, when I thought Summer had arrived at last, the weather turned foul again today.  It rained all day, heavily for much of it, and turned a lot cooler.  The builder working to relay our sunken block paving had to give up.  Is that the end of Summer already?
