Wigan Pier

I went over to Wigan with Rick today for the ideal Saturday of geocaching/pub/football.

First of all we walked round Wigan doing the Adventure Lab cache (one for geocachers). I have never been in the centre before and it was pleasant enough on a sunny day. The blip was taken at Wigan Pier which is a place I had wanted to see but it was a tremendous anti-climax as there is nothing there at all. It is on a par with the mermaid in Copenhagen, another vastly over rated sight.

Pub of choice was the Wigan Central by the railway station. Excellent beer but we were very disappointed with the pork pie and expected more from the home of pies. This just looked like a supermarket offering.

Finally it was off to the football at Winstanley Warriors ground which was a very nice setup. It was the final of the JB Parker Premier Division Challenge Cup and having seen Egerton win their quarter final and semi final on the previous two Saturdays I thought it would be good to see them in the final even though the game was against Altrincham Reserves (I don't like to watch reserve teams in these lower leagues). My newly adopted team, Egerton, comfortably won the game 3-0 and picked up the trophy.

As I was with Rick I didn't bother taking my camera and my phone shot of the ground wasn't very exciting so here is the disappointing sight of Wigan Pier.
