Flowering Palm

At the bottom of the garden, by the pond, we have a chusan palm. They are also known as Chinese Windmill Palms. This year it has borne a huge mass of yellow flowers arranged in branched panicles (thanks to Wikipedia for that description). From what I understand these are male flowers, as the female flowers are green and produced on separate trees. Chusan palms have been cultivated in China and Japan for thousands of years and the coarse leaf fibres are used for making ropes and sacks. It is nice to have something that looks so exotic growing in the garden.
