Day 9 Napier

We’ve had another lovely day, which started with our Saturday morning walk and a wonderful sunrise over Ahuriri, following which we walked around past the Napier Port to the Napier “Pier” (https://www.napier.govt.nz/napier/projects/marine-parade-outfall-and-viewing-platform/). Our walk ended just past Perfume Point (https://www.stuff.co.nz/dominion-post/news/71052601/proposed-name-change-for-napiers-perfume-point-causes-stink), following which we enjoyed coffee and a chat.  Having some time to spare we drove onto Marine Parade and stopped at The Spirit of Napier statue and fountain (http://www.ahuriri-rotary.org.nz/spirit/spirit.html ) to take a photo for today’s blip. A short while later we picked up an elderly friend and drove over to Havelock North and then up to the top of Te Mata Peak (https://www.tematapark.co.nz), which gives stunning views over the Hawke’s Bay countryside and back to Napier. On a clear day it’s possible to see Mt Ruapehu away in the distance, but not today.  After admiring the view we drove to Te Mata Figs (The Figgery) (https://tematafigs.co.nz) for lunch, which was delicious.  We also purchased some of their products to take home and as a gift for our host. We rounded off the day with a delicious curry meal with four friends - lots of talk and laughter.  It was great.

The main blip shows the sunrise (bottom left), the old lighthouse at Perfume Point (top left), the view along Marine Parade from the “pier” (top right) and the Spirit of Napier (bottom right).  The extra shows three views of the Hawke’s Bay countryside and our purchases from The Figgery.
