Loch Earn

A nostalgic day driving around the loch, part planning future hiking expeditions, visiting the scout station, walking a way along the former railway line, wandering in Killin and enjoying coffee & cake and the Dochart Falls.

For reasons mostly Covid, Lochearnhead Scout Station has been closed and will remain closed for two summers. For reasons of renovation and also of management changes, it is as yet as unclear in what format or when it will reopen for visits from Hertfordshire Scout Association. Many of us are missing it, including me, and I’ve only had the honour of being on or leading a course here 5 times. Many leaders have been coming for 20-50 years! But it is a wonderful place for nurturing souls and growing confidences.

Anyway moving on and looking forward I was part planning some future expeds. Fingers crossed. Along the way I discovered some lovely little wild flowers, previously unknown to me: Candy flower and Alpine balsam.

(Horrible news from home: Reggie ate a tub of chewing gum - deadly poisonous for dogs. Lauren & Sam rushed him to the animal hospital where he was injected with a vomit- inducing drug but not much gum was produced. He’s been put on a drip and his glucose levels and bloods will be monitored regularly. Back home, Sam found Reggie had already brought up a lot of gum in the garden. Phew! Fingers crossed he’s ok overnight and can come home tomorrow).
