A view from Jeanneb

Badentarbat

No mountains when woke this morning. It was generally overcast but dry and not unpleasant so after a leisurely breakfast we headed to the beach. Wanted a closer look at the pink blooms at the head of the bay. Sea pinks or thrift but other tiny pink blooms growing underneath. Not fully out yet so I’ll  probably take another look later in the week. We walked to the very head of the bay. The last time we did this on our very first visit here we were unable to cross the river to make a circuit back through the village. Today the water was very low and with the tide well out we managed to cross (well I was ok as I was wearing muck boots) and return via the single track road. As we walked the mountains emerged from the clouds and the brightness that we could see out to sea arrived over the bay. We had a coffee back at the house and later lunch, Chris had a ‘rest’ - well it is Father’s Day and he did a lot of driving over the last few days, so I started some new sewing. Blackwork.

Sun still shining, we then headed out to do our usual tour of the Coigach peninsula to see what if anything had changed since last year.  Stopped here at Badentarbat beach. A lovely spot with views back to Achiltibuie with Ben Mor Coigach behind which my son in law, John, usually runs up each year! Not sure why all this ‘stuff’ accumulates here but it becomes more  derelict each year! A couple of years ago they were doing a big beach tidy here picking up the plastic. I commented to a lady at the nearby Fisk Gallery that there was still a lot amongst the seaweed. She said they had left that as it was an important nesting ground for some seabirds. Sadly there was still lots of plastic in evidence.

We continued on to Altandhu and the Am Fuaran Bar. A drink outside over looking Isle Ristol (Summer Isles) with the white sand beach which is usually the destination of John and Grace in the sailing dinghy.
We normally do this early in the holiday so that we can book a table for the restaurant as the seafood is exceptional. We got the last table for Friday, result and something to look forward to. Meanwhile it’s artisan bakery pies for tea purchased yesterday in Dundee and more looking at those mountains!
