Langdale Day 2

Middlefell Buttress on Raven Crag today, and not so far to walk in. The plan was to carry on up to Gimmer for another route but that didn't happen because we wasted a bit of time finding the start to MB. 

We're not very impressed with the FRCC Langdale guide, it doesn't seem very logical, with the topo of the three possible starts on page 141and the route description on page 136. We chatted to a couple who didn't seem to understand it either, having started on the VS variation and then moved to the Severe start when his second couldn't follow him. We at last worked out that the Diff start was to the right. I had my leading head on and took pitches 1 and 3, very satisfying. 

We did it in four pitches due to other climbers on the route, and here is Fi waiting for the two lasses from Leeds MC to vacate pitch 4, having let them go ahead of us while we ate lunch. By this time I was feeling exhausted due to my cough/cold but at least the descent wasn't nearly as bad as we'd feared!
