It can and should be saved.

This is was the Sir John Maxwell Primary School in Pollokshaws, Glasgow.
I thought of this building when I saw Feorlean's post yesterday.
The school was designed by John H Hamilton in 1854 and until 2011 was in use as the local school. Latterly it contained the Gaelic Unit until the new Gaelic school was opened in the west end of the city. The Sir John Maxwell School has remained unused and forlorn since then. Ironically the council are now considering another Gaelic school and are looking at bringing the old St James Primary in the east end back to life.
Save Sir John Maxwell School has been set up to convince the council to refurbish the building for community use. The local area is currently undergoing regeneration after the removal of many of the high-rise flats.
The other building in the photos is the Polliokshaws Burgh Hall by Sir Robert Rowand Anderson, 1897 and A listed. It has been saved by a Trust.
