Light the North #2

Following on from my post of the Buchanness Lighthouse (Light the North #1) here is another lighthouse. This one is currently on show in Aberdeen.

‘Light the North’ is set to shine a light across Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Moray, Orkney  and Shetland.  From August through to October, the lighthouse sculpture trail can be seen in 45 locations.  They are 8 feet/2.5m tall  and have been designed by some of the UK’s most talented artists.

This event is made all the more special as the trail will be present in each of the areas that CLAN Cancer Support operates.  At the end of trail, each of the lighthouse sculptures will be auctioned off and the funds raised will help CLAN to support even more people affected by cancer in these areas.

This initiative follows on the successes of the Dolphin Trail (Maggie’s Centre) and the Anchor Trail (Aberdeen Children’s Hospital) in previous years.

This lighthouse can be found at the end of Aberdeen’s Beach Esplanade.  It was painted by local artist Lorna Jappy whose design depicts a starry night’s sky.

Lorna imagines CLAN to be like a constellation with the charity being a twinkling supportive light that helps patients, family and friends through the difficult and challenging times cancer brings.

Mrs CBL has gifted many pairs of the socks she knits to this charity for their sales’ table at their centre at Crimond as indeed she has for the Maggie’s Centre in Aberdeen.

CLAN is the acronym for Cancer Link Aberdeen and North.
