Elephant hawk caterpillar

As we were walking along I suddenly spied this enormous caterpillar crossing the road and making for the gardens opposite! It walked briskly!  The eyes are markings presumably to put off predators !  It was aware of me as I took a few shots with my phone but didn’t retract its head as they do if frightened.  A bit about it!

It’s the first time I see one! I’m certainly Not the first blipper to blip one!
