Visit to V&A Dundee

Rather belatedly (blame the pandemic) today we made our firs visit to the V& A in Dundee, which opened in 2018.

So much has already been written about this building that I felt I already knew it before getting there.
.
But nothing prepared me to actually seeing it in reality because of its sheer size wedged between the city and the River Tay waterfront.

Designed by the Japanese architect Kengo Kuma it’s the first design museum in Scotland and cost over £80 million.

So many friends had visited it and warned me that there was “nothing inside…just a lot of empty spaces.” Well, it shakes up your expectations of what you expect a modern museum to look like.
We skipped the main exhibition Friday Night Fever, a history of club culture, in favour of the permanent exhibition of Scottish Design.
One thing is assured: it’s put Dundee on the map.

Australian Blipper Serious Frolic pointed out that Kuma designed the Exchange building in Sydney .
