On the Move Again!

Sad to leave the beautiful quiet and thoroughly enjoyable land at Mike and Daveen’s in Morao but our 6 weeks is slowly winding down and this last few days has really felt like a holiday. We drove 750 km to the outskirts of Santander today, stopping briefly for a rather fat Tortellina sandwich and then a short stop in Salamanca which is a really fine city - especially if you are a pedestrian. I cannot remember a place where I had to wait so long at interminable traffic lights to wait for 45 seconds every time at zebra crossings - I feel sure this is a ploy to discourage cars in the centre - it isn’t working by the way. After we finally found a place to park we ambled down to the Plaza Mayor - impressive central square with busts of famous rulers and others from Spain’s history. We were unable to see Franco’s statue which had been subject to graffiti for years but was actually removed in 2016 due to his reputation. Had a refreshing drink at this table in the photo and finally made it to our overnight stay around 11 pm just 12km from the ferry terminal. Tomorrow we depart at 3pm so we will have a relaxing morning and lunch in Santander before the 30 hour trip to Portsmouth.
