Acharn Stone Circle

There has been rain and floods in other parts of the country, but today has actually been dry here. This afternoon we visited the falls above the tiny village of Acharn, and then went further up the fellside to the neolithic Acharn stone circle. The site of the circle commands breath-taking views across Loch Tay towards Ben Lawers and Schiehallion. 
Of the original nine stones, four are still upright, while two others lie close to their original positions. The disturbance of the site doesn't seem to diminish its impressiveness.
The site was excavated in 1924 revealing evidence of bone calcium and charcoal deposits suggesting that this is where a pyre once burned.
