Last of the leaves..

Yesterday we met up with friends and went to an area of ancient woodland. Burnham Beeches is made of mostly beech trees but also very old oaks. A few of the oak trees have been dated at around 800 years old and as the information board says have lived through the reigns of 35 different Kings and Queens of England.

The autumn leaves are now a deep russet colour and falling fast so it was good to get this lovely walk in when we did, by next weekend there will not be many leaves still attached to trees.

We had a hearty lunch of fish pie and shared an apple and rhubarb crumble in front of a crackling fire at the Blackwood Arms pub half way round the walk.
