Life in Newburgh on Ythan

Mad Jack's son

Be thou the rainbow in the storms of life. The evening beam that smiles the clouds away, and tints tomorrow with prophetic ray.

Lord Byron. British poet. 1788-1824.

George Gordon Byron was the son of Captain John "Mad Jack" Byron and his second wife, the former Catherine Gordon heiress of the Gight estate which lies a few miles inland from here. At the age of 10, he inherited the English Barony of Byron of Rochdale, thus becoming Lord Byron.

I have previously blipped the throughly haunted Gight Castle; you can see the photograph and read more about it all, here.
