Grilled Stickies, with Grilled Stickies Ice Cream

The stars aligned this week for a rare treat. On Wednesday, my husband and I drove in two different directions and brought back food. In Altoona, we had a late breakfast at Eat 'n Park, and I brought home the grilled stickies that accompanied my super senior griddle smile, along with a quart of very nice to-go chili, which is an awesome lunch on the cold winter days.

Later that day, I drove in to State College, walked all over, visited the Arboretum, saw some wonderful art, and picked up my last free half-gallon of ice cream at Penn State's Berkey Creamery. The flavor? Grilled stickies! Which is, overall, our very favorite Creamery flavor. (Though I have dallied a bit on the side with August pie; oh yes, I have!)

Some of you may not be familiar with grilled stickies, so let me break it down for you. A grilled sticky is a sticky bun, or cinnamon roll, lightly braised in butter in a pan, and served warm.

What is the best possible thing you can think of to put on one after that? Well, I nominate Penn State Berkey Creamery's grilled stickies ice cream, which consists of cinnamon bun flavored ice cream with sticky bun dough pieces and a cinnamon streusel swirl, according to the Creamery's website.

It was just after 8 p.m., and my husband announced that he thought he was ready for ice cream. I told him I'd get us some at 8:30, but it turns out that was too long to wait. So I got out the ice cream, got out the grilled stickies, warmed the stickies up for a half-minute in the microwave, and placed part of one on each plate, next to a generous scoop of Creamery ice cream. Of course, I had to take a few photos, as, off-camera, I licked the ice cream scoop.

"It tastes like the kind of dessert you would eat in Heaven," my husband said wistfully, as he polished his off. I simply sat and moaned in reply, as I ate mouthful after mouthful of sweet, sticky goodness. You know what, world? Life doesn't GET any better than this!!!!

Here is a song for a sweet treat: U2, with Sweetest Thing.
