Sunday

Around 5 o'clock this morning I went to the sanitary block after which I couldn't seem to get warm anymore. Bert also woke up numb. Our down sleeping bags should be able to keep us warm until -10 or even colder and it wasn't that cold at all. I regret throwing away our extra insulation material last year. We have to buy new ones now, because the ground is still very cold.

We didn't know exactly how long the journey would be if we cycled home via Tongeren and we thought it was a bad idea to spend another cold night. We looked for the straightest way. It turned out to be a beautiful route between Sint-Truiden and Tongeren, also a very busy one. It is the old Roman road on which we will cycle again in a few weeks during our cycling trip. The road has beautiful views and passes through large fruit tree plantations.

From Tongeren it was still almost 30 kilometers to cycle. It's great that we kept it up and even special that Bert did it without the support of electricity. It was a tough road with a lot of hills. The shortest route was also the last hill from Maastricht to our house.
I suspect that there must have been a less hilly route. We could certainly have gone around the last hill, but that would have been 5 kilometres longer. We were already over the 100.

We were happy to come home. All in all we had a nice bike ride and we are a bit proud.
