Nociazzi Wash House

Our road heads up higher into the Madonie mountains and just up a ways is another tiny village, Nociazzi. At the center of town along the mountain road is the wash house and fountain. They were built in the 1920’s and was the most frequented place in town. Not all the houses had running water, so people went to the fountain to get water for domestic use. The wash house has 3 washing tubs built in local calcareous stone (Cave Cozzo Morto) and was regularly used until the 1960’s to wash clothes. Even today some come here to hand wash raw wool.
